FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: autostereoscopic display device comprises a display panel (3), having an array of pixels arranged into rows and columns for generating a display output, an image forming assembly (9) for directing the output from different subpixels towards different spatial positions in order to provide autostereoscopic display output, and a controller for controlling output from the subpixels, wherein during the frame period, which comprises a first and a second subframe period, the controller compels the display panel (3) to generate a display output frame. During the first subframe period, a first subframe with a lower resolution is provided and during the second subframe period, a second subframe, different from the first and with a lower resolution, is provided. The first and second subframes together provide a whole frame with a higher resolution.
EFFECT: high resolution of the displayed stereo image.
