FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metal forming and may be used in making hollow forgings of ball valve bodies. Hollow billet is made for fabrication of two hollow forgings. Mandrel is fitted into heated billet. Mandrel shape follows the contours of two forgings with their neck adjoining each other. Hollow billet is forged at four-hammer forging device in hydraulic press by reduction on shaped mandrel by shaped hammers simultaneously over entire length of said mandrel Billet is canted after every single reduction. Note here that billet is turned through, at least, 360 degrees after completion of reduction cycle. After forging, shaped mandrel is removed to cut the forging into two parts.
EFFECT: higher precision and efficiency.
