SUBSTANCE: device includes: backlight with a plurality of light sources of different colours, a display panel, a unit for calculating light brightness, which splits the input image into a plurality of zones and receives light brightness data based on the input image, a unit for calculating display brightness which determines the display brightness based on light brightness data for corresponding zones, a unit for calculating display data, which receives display data for controlling light transmission factors of the display elements, a circuit for actuating the panel, which outputs signals for controlling light transmission factors of the display elements into the display panel; and a circuit for actuating the backlight.
EFFECT: reduced power consumption in an image display device.
