FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: radiation brightness computation section (151) divides an input image (31) into a plurality of areas and obtains radiation brightness of light-emitting diodes (first radiation brightness (32)) on the areas. A section (152) for calculating the eccentricity coefficient of a position with maximum brightness obtains eccentricity coefficients (33) of positions with maximum brightness which indicates a position with maximum brightness on the areas. A radiation brightness adjustment section (153) adjusts the first radiation brightness (32) based on eccentricity coefficients (33) of positions with maximum brightness and ratios (34) of weights stored in the filter (156) of the light-emitting diodes. Also, brightness of areas lying in the same direction as the position with maximum brightness is set relatively high and brightness of areas lying in an opposite direction of the position with maximum brightness is set relatively low.
EFFECT: suppressing flicker caused by display of a moving image due to that radiation brightness of each area is determined based on the maximum or average value of pixel brightness in that area, which improves quality of displaying moving objects.
