FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: adaptive sensor is in form of three functional parts - a control unit, an emitter unit with an optical output connected by a flexible cable to the control unit, an actuating device with an optical input and three output terminals which are the first, second and third outputs of the adaptive sensor. The control unit consists of an electric oscillation generator, two NOR logic elements, a sensor for controlling metallic and nonmetallic articles, a T flip-flop and a display unit. Potential signals for controlling the position of metallic or nonmetallic articles are obtained at the first output terminal and a two-bit binary code for identifying metallic or nonmetallic articles is obtained at the second and third output terminals. The adaptive sensor enables remote automatic control of metallic and nonmetallic articles without mechanical contact with said articles and automatic adaptation thereof to a specific type of controlled article.
EFFECT: broader functional capabilities, improved operational characteristics and high level of automation of the process of controlling articles.
