SUBSTANCE: electronic thermometer has a hollow probe tip (3), a temperature measurement unit (3a) on the elongated end which has a temperature sensor, electrodes (7a and 7b) adjoining the temperature sensor and lying the plane of the probe tip (3), as well as a determination unit for determining whether the temperature measurement unit (3a) is in proper contact with the intended measurement area of the user or not based on measurement of electrostatic capacitance read using electrodes (7a and 7b).

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining contact of the sensor with the human body and high accuracy of temperature measurement.
