FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of producing a ceramic with a mayenite structure can be used to produce a ceramic used in electrochemical devices. The method is characterised by that precursor powder is obtained from a solution of nitrates using a mixture of starting components of aluminium nitrate and calcium carbonate via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis followed by calcination at temperature 700°C. Workpieces are made from the powder by pressing at pressure 5-6 t/cm2 and burnt at temperature 1200°C on air for 48 hours. Both the last step for synthesis of mayenite from precursors and compacting of the ceramic take place during sintering.

EFFECT: obtaining a mayenite structure, which enables to obtain a ceramic with density and mechanical strength sufficient for use in electrochemical devices.
