FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method of measuring average flow rate of an electroconductive medium by applying a magnetic field onto the measuring medium through which said medium flows, and picking up an electrical signal induced in the measured volume, wherein the fluctuating component of the electrical signal, caused by random fluctuations of flow rate as a result of turbulence, is picked up as the useful signal depending on the time, wherein the average, particularly spatially averaged, flow rate on the given time intervals is determined from the fluctuating component of the electrical signal through weighted integration of the fluctuating component of the electrical signal.

EFFECT: possibility of measuring flow rate based on the magnetic induction principle which, on one hand, allows for use of a time-constant magnetic field, and can be realised with any type of signal detection, particularly galvanic or capacitive.
