FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method relates to carbide plate-like cutting tool of application group K. First, temperature in contact between tool and machined material zone is measured at different cutting speeds to plot temperature to speed relation. Then said plotted relation is used to set optimum cutting speed whereat temperature in aforesaid zone corresponds to that of preheating carbide cutting plate in dilatometer cell corresponding, during temperature increase, to transition of thermal expansion factor variation from liner to parabolic.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of determination.
