FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to measurement equipment and may be used to detect distance to a moving vehicle. On the way of vehicle movement a video camera is installed, whenever a vehicle appears in the zone of control, a video frame is fixed with an image of a license plate on the vehicle. The license plate symbols are recognised, using which, the type of the license plate is identified. Coordinates of points (tops) of the license plate image corners are measured in the system of video frame coordinates, geometric dimensions of the license plate image are defined on the video frame in pixels. In the proposed group of inventions, the distance is measured to a certain point of the vehicle, namely, to the centre of the license plate, no matter what is the height of video camera installation above the road. Besides, the detection of license plate installation height above the road is identified.

EFFECT: using a group of inventions makes it possible to increase probability of vehicle identification when detecting violation of speed regime.
