FIELD: physics; control.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to systems for controlling and monitoring road traffic, specifically a system for video recording and measurement of speed and coordinates of vehicles. The system comprises a radar, a video camera with a light-sensitive sensor, a lens, a control unit, processor and illumination units. The radar is configured to simultaneously measure the speed and coordinates of all vehicles in the surveillance area of the video camera. The processor unit is configured to automatically recognise number plate images simultaneously with radar measurements. The surveillance area of the video camera covers at least four lanes. A number plate image comprises at least N pixels on the width, where N is determined by the formula N = U S , where U is the geometric width of the number plate; S is the geometric width of lines with which the image of characters on the number plate is made.

EFFECT: enabling determination of motion parameters (speed and coordinates) of vehicles while simultaneously recognising number plates for all vehicles located in a surveillance area on a road with at least four lanes.
