FIELD: geography.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of determining absolute geographic coordinates of vehicles. According to method control zone is scanned by means of at least one video camera. On received video frames recognising state registration plates of vehicle, determining exact time and coordinates of position of each vehicle. Video camera is pre-calibrated for determining accurate size of its matrix by placing calibrated state registration plate at specified distance from video camera, video camera lens focal distance is determined considering width of its matrix, size and a given distance from plate to video camera. On obtained video frame symbol recognition is performed to determine type of plate, coordinates of points of tops of angles of its image in a video frame coordinates, geometric dimensions and ratio of width and height of its image, comparing said value with a reference for said type and based on results of comparison contraction coefficient is calculated, based on which measured width of its image is corrected. Based on value of focal distance of video camera lens, width of its matrix and corrected image plate width, determining distance from video camera to centre of plate, calculating distance from point of projection of video camera on road to point of plate centre projection on road at previously measured value of video camera suspension height above road and known distance from video camera to centre of plate. From suspension height value of video camera is subtracted suspension height plate on vehicle and vehicle coordinates are calculated considering known coordinates of video camera, previously measured angle of deviation of video camera of north and known distance from point of projection of video camera on road to point of projection of centre plate on road.

EFFECT: technical result is increased accuracy of determining coordinates, simple use.
