FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric traction systems of railway transport facilities, in particular to method for reduction of excitation of heavy-duty electric traction DC motors on locomotives. Method for reduction of locomotive traction electric motors excitation consists in successive switching on or off the steps of traction motors field reduction in the number of at least two ones. On each step of traction motors field reduction, switching on or off of field reduction of another or subsequent traction motor is performed with time delay for time value not less than operation of previous contactor of field shunting.
EFFECT: lower shock loads on traction generator, traction motors, thermal engine and locomotive underframe.
