FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electric vehicle electric equipment, particularly, to protection of locomotive DC motors. Proposed method consists in measuring locomotive traction generator voltage, defining DC traction motor rpm, measuring currents of armatures and excitation windings of all traction motors, isolating minimum magnitudes from said measured currents, defining minimum magnetic fluxes by said minimum currents. Measured voltage of traction generator, defined minimum magnetic flux and measured minimum DC motor current are used to calculate maximum rpm of traction motor at armature minimum current to be compared to maximum tolerable rpm. In case the latter is exceeded, DC traction motors are disconnected from traction generator.
EFFECT: higher reliability of protection.
