FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining presence of liquid in the bottom part of the housing of a flow metre involves passing gas through the central channel of the housing of the flow metre, directing acoustic signals along a chord across the central channel which do not cross the bottom part of the central channel in which liquid accumulates when the gas passes, determining the flow rate of gas in the zone of each chord through the propagation time of acoustic signals along corresponding chords and determining the presence of liquid in the bottom part of the housing of the flow metre through the flow rate in the zone of each chord. The system for determining presence of liquid in the bottom part of the housing of a flow metre includes a flow metre housing which defines the central channel and its radius and is configured to be placed in a gas stream flowing through the central channel, a group of pairs of transducers mounted on the housing of the flow metre, which define a group of chords across the central channel, lying inside the central channel higher than the horizontal plane lying higher than the level of 5% of the radius, which is measured from the bottommost point of the central channel, which do not cross said level and are configured to transmit and receive acoustic signals along corresponding chords.
EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring flow rate of a fluid medium.
