FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic waves are generated in a given zone of an analysed component with a known initial density ρ0; propagation time of said waves is measured; ultrasonic waves are generated again in the same zone during operation; propagation time of said waves is measured; relative change in propagation time δt is determined and density ρ of the analysed component is calculated using the following equation: ρ=ρ0·[1+(a·δt+b)], where a and b are empirical coefficients.
EFFECT: high accuracy of determining density of components made from highly filled composite materials based on octogene and enabling, at any given operating period, inspection of components of different size and configuration with one-sided access, and also through layers of other materials using standard industrial devices, including in field conditions.
