FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vehicle identification and can be used in anti-theft systems. The disclosed method involves fitting a vehicle with a passive transponder with an antenna, radio probing by emitting a radio signal of the passive transponder, generating a codeword by the passive transponder, which is stored in nonvolatile memory of the transponder which contains an information part with vehicle data, re-emission of the generated electrical signal and subsequent reception thereof by the antenna of a transmitting-receiving channel, and decoding the information to obtain vehicle data. Probing of the passive transponder of the vehicle, reception and processing of the response signal are carried out with simultaneous visual reading of the vehicle number plate using video cameras mounted at predetermined points on the route of the vehicle. The obtained vehicle data, which are extracted from the response signal, are compared with visual reading data. The vehicle is considered stolen if the radio query data do not match the visual reading data.
EFFECT: invention increases reliability of automatic vehicle identification.
