FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: remelting of consumable electrode at alternating current with superimposition on slag and metal baths of alternating magnetic field. Remelting of the consumable electrode is performed at alternating current frequency of 0.01-10 Hz and the power introduced to a slag bath, which is maintained in compliance with the ratio P=K·DI, where P - power introduced to the slag bath, kW, K - coefficient equal to 0.6-0.8 kW/mm, DI - diameter of the melted ingot, mm, and alternating electromagnetic field with intensity of 2000-14000 A/m and frequency of 50 Hz is superimposed in the melting area of the consumable electrode after slag and metal baths are formed.
EFFECT: effective heat exchange in the melting zone of the consumable electrode; reduction of defects of the molten ingot; simple and cost-effective start-up of the process; reduction of remelting prime cost.
