FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves establishing temperature of a powdered mixture from 70°C to 80°C. A hydrogen-containing gas is then passed through the powdered mixture for a predetermined period of time which is at least four hours. After formation of a hydride of silver chloride, temperature is raised to at least 400°C in order to facilitate dissociation of the hydride of silver chloride to form silver and release gaseous hydrogen chloride.
EFFECT: improved method of extracting silver by direct reduction from silver chloride at atmospheric or low pressure.
