FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method comprises feeding metalised pellets via axial holes in graphite electrodes into slag melt of furnace bath under-electrode zone. Carbon-bearing powder and inert gas or gas mix are fed via said axial holes into metalised slag together with aforesaid pellets. Consumption of carbon-bearing powder is defined by the formula where is consumption of carbon-bearing powder, losses of carbon from electrodes oxidation in slag melt and carbon feed into under-electrode zone of furnace bath on melting metalised pellets therein, kg/melting. Consumption of inert gas is set on the basis of volume formed in under-electrode zone where ΔVb is change in volume of said zone, m3/min; de is electrode OD, m; Hs is electrode penetration into bath slag melt, m; τ is time, min.
EFFECT: higher durability of electrode, power savings.
