FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the electric furnaces with graphite electrodes immersed in melted slag, the electrodes have axial holes, through which to zone of electric arcs the iron-ore iron-rich pellets are supplied, they are melted with afterburning of carbon oxide by oxygen supplied from nozzles of the water cooled lance to space between electrodes above slag, and additional heating of the slag-metal bath. Heat power of slag-metal bath is determined by equation ΔqB = QB/τ+(Qex+QCO+QF), where QB is power consumption for melting, kWh/t; QCO, QF, Qex are heat input from CO aftercooling, fuel and exothermal reaction in furnace, kW, and current rate of metal heating (Vt, °C/s), current consumption of iron-ore iron-rich pellets (Vpel, kg/s) depending on heat power of slag-metal bath is (ΔqB, kW), and current rate of metal heating in it (Vt, °C/s) keeping equality of this value of optimal required rate of metal heating (Vt(opt), °C/s).
EFFECT: invention increases efficiency of iron-ore iron-rich pellets melting, reduces power consumption, increases the furnace capacity, and reduces energy consumption of the production.
