FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: when a target is missed in a tracking gate when tracking the path of the target, the gate is increased to a size which corresponds to a predetermined maximum unforeseen manoeuvre of the target; if a reflecting object is detected when examining the increased tracking gate, during the next k-1 tracking periods (where k is the number of criteria for discarding a path from tracking), two continuations of said path are simultaneously tracked: the continuation which uses coordinates of the reflecting object, and the continuation which uses extrapolated coordinates of the target; if at the end of the tracking periods, criteria for discarding from tracking the continuation of the path which uses extrapolated coordinates of the target are met, the continuation of the path which uses coordinates of the reflecting object are considered the continuation of said path; if the discard criteria are not met, the continuation of the path which uses extrapolated coordinates of the target is considered the continuation of said path, and the continuation which uses coordinates of the reflecting object is considered the beginning of a path of a new target.

EFFECT: reduced loss of tracked paths of targets.
