FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: with grounded conductive elements high (up to 40 kV) harmonic voltage of measured level and frequency is applied to an area of insulation surface of a cable product; at that process of current measuring takes place though insulation. Using the received values of current and voltage a value of electrical impedance and its components are calculated. A defective section of insulation leads to change of these parameters and in case of penetration defects - to spark breakdown and sudden rise of current level. Physical properties of dielectric material and availability of defects are assessed against change in electrical parameters of insulation and rise of current level. The invention is applicable to cable products with rated operating pressure up to 3 kV in processes of insulating of cores and blanks with rubber and plasticised insulating materials.
EFFECT: improving detection of defects and information content of electrospark test method for cable products.
