FIELD: information technology.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of streaming video, having a first resolution, from a first user device to a second user device, having a large screen with multiple second resolutions higher than the first resolution. Simultaneously, one or more third user devices receive the video stream through the same network component, having limited bandwidth, characterised by that it includes: performing optimisation to determine the second resolution to be selected from multiple second resolutions in the receiving user device for the video stream. Optimisation includes: using, as input information for the optimisation operation, utility functions that are determined in advance and are, for each video stream of the corresponding quality, perceptible for the user depending on resolution of the video stream and the assigned data rate; wherein when performing optimisation based on utility functions for said video streams, a common quality indicator is calculated, which is calculated so as to find, among possible resolutions and data rates that may be assigned to the second user device and among possible data rates that may be assigned to video streams received by the third user devices after streaming of said video, such a resolution and such data rates that must be assigned to second and third user devices after transmission and for which the common quality indicator reaches its optimum or extreme value; and setting the second resolution and data rates for streams received by the second and third user devices after said video streaming, according to the optimisation result, such that the common quality indicator reaches its extreme value.

EFFECT: method and device for providing the service of transmitting information between user devices, in which possible deterioration of perception of quality by users due to limited network resources is taken into account.
