SUBSTANCE: invention relates to storage and transfer of coded multimedia data. Disclosed is a method of receiving multimedia data. The method includes a step of receiving data of a first segment of a representation of multimedia content in accordance with data of a copy of a manifest file stored by a client device, wherein the data of the first segment correspond to a period of the multimedia content. Further, the method includes receiving a portion of a second segment of the representation in accordance with the manifest file, wherein data of the second segment corresponds to the period to which the data of the first segment correspond, wherein the second segment occurs after the first segment in the representation, and wherein the portion of the second segment indicates that the manifest file is to be updated. The copy of the manifest file stored by the client device is updated based on the indication that the manifest file is to be updated, and media data of the second segment are received in accordance with the updated manifest file.
EFFECT: improved network streaming of media data.
