FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves indentation loading of analysed materials, detecting acoustic emission signals during loading, processing the acoustic emission signals and identifying a signal parameter determining physical-mechanical characteristic of the material and, consequently, the operational property of an article made from that material. The information bearing signal parameter used is energy of acoustic signal pulses, and comparison of operational properties of articles made from different analysed materials is carried out on values of accumulated pulse energy over the loading time, including on the value of the inclination angle of the tangent to the curve of accumulated signal energy versus time of loading the material.
EFFECT: high efficiency of evaluating properties of a material and broader technical capabilities, enabling use of the method to evaluate corrosion resistance of coated materials.
