FIELD: engines and pumps.

SUBSTANCE: proposed device comprises coolant temperature gage 12, engine operating conditions gage 15 and fault diagnostics device 11. Fault diagnostics device 11 is configured to diagnose jam of thermostat 7 in open state arranged in coolant flow channel 5 of engine E at vehicle V on the basis of comparison between coolant actual temperature as-read by coolant temperature gage 12 and coolant temperature as-detected by engine operating conditions gage 15. Said fault diagnostics device 11 defines the jam of open thermostat after determining that either estimated coolant temperature or coolant actual temperature exceeds preset reference magnitude during period wherein criterion of radiator increased heat exchange rate is continuously satisfied.

EFFECT: efficient and reliable diagnostics of thermostat.
