SUBSTANCE: transmission power control methods and apparatus are disclosed. In several versions, a mobile terminal (200) is configured to effectively ignore 'UP' transmission power control commands when the mobile terminal (200) is operating in a power-limited state. In an exemplary method of controlling transmission power at a mobile terminal (200), a plurality of transmission power control commands are received. An accumulated power control value is adjusted (350) in response to each transmission power control command which directs a negative adjustment in transmission power. However, the accumulated power control value is adjusted (350) in response to a transmission power control command which directs a positive adjustment in transmission power only if the mobile terminal (200) is not in a power-limited state. Transmission power settings for each transmission are calculated (360) based on the accumulated power control value and one or more radio link parameters.

EFFECT: efficient control of uplink transmission power of a mobile terminal in LTE and other systems through power control with feedback.
