FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: transverse slots are made on a workpiece, and a side surface of a tool cutting part is brightened. Side brightened surface is lightened with a beam of coherent monochromatic radiation, interference pattern is formed in camera object plane resulted in interaction of reflected and reference beams. The tool is cut-in in the workpiece with radial infeed, changes of interference pattern as compared to interference pattern before cutting-in are recorded by the camera. By changes of interference patterns related to movements of side surface determined are temperature values in contact area at moments, when cutting part of the tool was in transverse slots of the workpiece, measured are lengths of contact on the front and back surfaces of cutting tool on the pattern of its cutting part combined with the pattern of interference patterns at the moments of cutting before the tool enters the next slot.
EFFECT: reducing labour intensity and improving accuracy.
