FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to production of worm gear reduction units and open low-speed worm gear drives, which operate at linear rotation speed of a worm gear wheel of up to 2 m/s, and is intended to increase wear resistance of a worm-and-worm pair. For that purpose, transverse grooves (4) with the length equal to height of a worm turn are applied onto working surfaces of turns (2) of worm (1) mainly using a laser method. Then, uniform coating (3) from wear-resistant material is applied onto the working surface of the worm turns; after that, transverse grooves are filled with antifriction material (5).
EFFECT: increasing service life of low-speed worm gear drives.
