FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: average radius of the Earth's orbit is enlarged by performing a sequence of gravity-assisted manoeuvres from the Moon of large objects from the asteroid belt or Kuiper belt. As a result gravitational pulses which alter the Earth's orbit around the Sun are applied to the Moon and consequently to the entire Earth-Moon system. The period of gravitational interaction is selected such that during that time, the centre of mass of the Moon is situated near the direction of the velocity of the centre of mass of the Earth-Moon system. Other manoeuvre parameters, particularly the aiming distance and entry velocity of the object into the sphere of influence of the Moon, are selected such that the vector of the gravitational pulse applied to the Moon is collinear to the velocity vector of the centre of mass of the Earth-Moon system around the Sun. Performing gravitational flybys of the Moon successively forwards and backwards from the Earth (along its direction of movement) enables to keep the orbit of the Moon around the Earth on average.
EFFECT: safer procedures for enlarging the Earth's orbit around the Sun.
