FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: connecting element for connecting graphite electrodes has at least one graphite area and at least one carbon fibre-reinforced carbon area, wherein the graphite contains at least 10 wt % fibre and the carbon fibre-reinforced carbon contains more than 20 wt % carbon fibre. The connecting element preferably contains a graphite body in form of a cylinder or double cone, wherein the graphite body has multiple recesses having a groove shape, which are filled with carbon fibre-reinforced carbon material with weight ratio of carbon fibre of more than 20 wt %.
EFFECT: invention enables to make a connecting element with improved mechanical strength, particularly even when the connecting element has a smaller diameter.
