FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to a diagnostic technique for septic encephalopathy in newborns suffering from a perinatal hypoxic injury of the central nervous system that consists in calculating P/S index as a relation of the blood serum procalcitonin (PCT) biomarker and S100-b concentrations measured simultaneously; if the derived index is more than 11 with S100-b exceeding the normal value of 0.1 pcg/l, the presence of septic encephalopathy is diagnosed.
EFFECT: using the declared method enables effective differential diagnosis of encephalopathy in the newborn suffering from the perinatal hypoxic injury of the central nervous system.
