SUBSTANCE: invention relates to transmission of short messages in wireless communication. The method of transmitting short messages comprises steps of: sending a first control message from a first radio station to a second radio station, the control message including a data field which contains a short message from a user of the first radio station to a user of the second radio station and a type attribute indicating that content of the data field is a short message; receiving a second control message from the second radio station in response to the first control message, the second control message including a data field which contains a response to the short message and a type attribute indicating that the content of the data field is a short message.

EFFECT: transmitting short messages without the need for an active connection.
