In this process, it is determined whether V target operating condition has been achieved in which risk of fuel accumulation in exhaust system is increased. If V target operating condition is achieved countermeasures are taken against fuel accumulation in exhaust system. Particulate filter (261) is provided with temperature sensor (275). Exhaust gas mass flow rate sensor (245) is also accommodated in exhaust system.
