FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment, in particular, to the method to detect a structural defect in a mechanical unit comprising a rotary element. The method includes a stage of preliminary analysis for detection of characteristic frequency of defect appearance per single rotation of the specified element, and also subsequent repeating stages: measurement of instant speed of rotation of the rotary element; angular digitisation of specified measurement with production of a digitised signal, which characterises instant speed of rotation of the specified element; a spatial harmonic analysis of the digitised signal with production of the spectrum of instant speed of rotation of the specified element; control of amplitude of the spectrum for the characteristic frequency, so that on the basis of the specified amplitude one may detect appearance of the appropriate defect.

EFFECT: simplification of measurement facilities.
