FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: proposed group of inventions is related to electric engineering and can be used at the production and operation of nickel-hydrogen batteries and independent power supply systems of spacecrafts. Method of operation of a nickel-hydrogen battery in an independent power supply system includes charge-discharge cycles with limiting of the charge by pressure sensors installed on the control storage cells of the battery, storage in the full-charge state, periodic recharging to compensate the capacitance of storage cells' self-discharge during storage, monitoring of self-discharge currents of the storage cells and regulation of the value of these currents by changing the setpoints of the pressure sensors. Additionally an independent power supply system of a spacecraft comprising the primary power source, batteries, charging and discharging converters, units to control the batteries and the load is proposed. The value of the storage cells' self-charging currents is additionally regulated by electric heaters installed on the storage cells, the power supply of the electric heaters is commutated by managed switches as well, the current temperatures of storage cells are additionally monitored, and closing and opening of the storage cells is carried out depending on the said temperatures to reach their equality and increase of the current value if necessary.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of nickel-hydrogen battery operation and reliability.
