SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electrically heated smoking system, which comprises an auxiliary unit made as capable of receiving a smoking material containing an aerosol-forming substrate, besides, the auxiliary unit comprises: at least one heating element; facilities of connection to the main source of power supply for supply of electric energy to at least one heating element; an auxiliary source of power supply for supply of electric energy to the specified at least one heating element; and an auxiliary circuit for control of energy supply from the main source of power supply to the specified at least one heating element in the mode of preliminary heating, during which the temperature of the aerosol-containing substrate increases to the working temperature, and for control of supply of energy from the auxiliary source of power supply to at least one heating element in the smoking mode, during which the temperature of the aerosol-forming substrate is maintained as substantially the working temperature.

EFFECT: due to separation of the power supply function between the main unit and the auxiliary unit, an auxiliary unit may be made smaller and more convenient for the user.
