FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the power industry, in particular to wire vibration dampers, lightning protection cables of overhead power lines, self-supporting fibre optic communication cables. The vibration damper is configured as a hollow body 1 of any geometrical shape, the inner cavity of which is filled with an antifreeze liquid or inert gas. The housing 1 is connected to terminal 2 fixed on the wire, lightning protection cable or communication cable and is separated with membranes (plates) 3 into several chambers 4 with throttling holes 5; loads 6 are fixed on the membranes 3, and membranes 3 are fixed in a position using a metal coil spring 7. The entire structure of membranes 3 with loads 6 and spring 7 forms the so-called damping unit that makes possible operation of the vibration damper on overhead lines. To ensure optimal performance of the vibration damper, the weight (kg) of membranes 3 and loads 6 are selected according to the following ratio: (0.0001÷0.0025)f, where f (Hz) is the maximum vibration frequency inherent to wires, lightning protection cables, communication cables with which the damper is used, the ratio of the diameter of the membrane to its thickness of (3÷500), the ratio of the diameter of holes in each membrane to the diameter of each membrane of (0.001÷0.1).

EFFECT: invention provides a vibration damping over a broad frequency range.
