FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to an electrophotographic photosensitive element, a process cartridge and an electrophotographic device, both including said electrophotographic photosensitive element, and a method of making an electrophotographic photosensitive element. The disclosed group of inventions includes an electrophotographic photosensitive element, a process cartridge detachably connected to the main housing of an electrophotographic device, an electrophotographic device and a method of making an electrophotographic photosensitive element. The electrophotographic photosensitive element comprises a cylindrical base, an electroconductive layer containing a binding material and metal oxide particles, formed on the cylindrical base; and a photosensitive layer formed on the electroconductive layer, in which the metal oxide particles are titanium oxide particles coated with tin oxide which is doped with phosphorus, when the absolute value of maximum current flowing through the electroconductive layer, when performing a test with continuous application of voltage of -1.0 kV, which includes only dc voltage, to the electroconductive layer, is denoted as Ia [mcA], and the absolute value of current flowing through the electroconductive layer, when the decrease per minute of the value of current flowing through the electroconductive layer reaches 1% or less the first time, is denoted as Ib [mcA], Ia and Ib satisfy the relationships (i) and (ii) given below; and Ia≤6000 (i); and 10≤Ib (ii), volume resistivity of the electroconductive layer before testing ranges from 1.0×108 to 5.0×1012 ohm·cm.

EFFECT: providing an electrophotographic photosensitive element with reduced leakage in case of insulation breakdown in the local part of the electrophotographic photosensitive element and flow of excess current through the local part, even when the electrophotographic photosensitive element employs a layer containing metal oxide particles as an electroconductive layer, a process cartridge and an electrophotographic device, both including said electrophotographic photosensitive element, and a method of making an electrophotographic photosensitive element, thereby preventing insufficient discharge, which leads to image defects such as black spots, white cross bands and black cross bands.
