FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: atomic-force microscope is used to scan dry smears of stored erythrocytes and to evaluate a Young modulus of erythrocyte membranes of the analysed erythrocyte media at any stages of storage, and to compare the obtained results to the Young modulus values calculated by the presented formula of YM=1.81+0.04*x, wherein YM is Young modulus [KPa]; x is shelf-life of the erythrocyte medium [days] describing a linear regression function of average Young modulus values in length of 35 days if stored in the standard environment at T=4°C.

EFFECT: method can be used by quality control departments of blood banking for the purpose of erythrocyte media screening in order to conclude on their clinical applicability when in use.
