SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for selecting a component carrier in a carrier aggregating communication network. A method of selecting a component carrier comprises steps of: determining a coverage range of each available carrier that can be used by a terminal; determining whether the distribution of the coverage ranges of different available carriers corresponds to a predetermined distribution mode; and determining a component carrier to be used at least according to a rule that is determined by the predetermined distribution mode, in the case that the distribution of the coverage ranges of different available carriers corresponds to the predetermined distribution mode, wherein the communication network is a carrier aggregating communication network, and the determined component carrier is one of multiple carriers to be used by the terminal.

EFFECT: enabling selection of a component carrier for use by a terminal.
