FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: method for determining indications to radical prostatectomy in prostate cancer refers to medicine, more specifically to urology, and can find application in treating localised prostate cancer. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is measured in the patient; a small pelvis is imaged, and histologic examination of prostate biopsy material is performed. A pre-therapeutic PSA doubling time (length) is determined by formula: DTPSA = ln2(t2-t1)/{ln[PSAt2] - ln[PSAt1]}. The radical prostatectomy is considered to be indicated if the DTPSA is more than 20 months.

EFFECT: method increases a percentage of the radical interventions, prolongs the recurrence-free survival, and reduces the need of adjuvant treatment.
