SUBSTANCE: invention relates to travelling wave nuclear fission reactors having a fast neutron spectrum. The invention describes an assembly for controlling reactivity, a system for controlling reactivity, a travelling wave nuclear fission reactor, a method of controlling reactivity in a reactor, methods of controlling a reactor, a method and a system for determining an application of a controllably movable rod. The method of controlling reactivity includes determining a desirable reactivity parameter, adjusting the control rod containing fertile material and a neutron absorber, gradually moving the fertile material and/or absorber into and out of the control rod.
EFFECT: providing appropriate fine control of reactivity in a travelling wave nuclear reactor.
