FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises the natural resonant frequency measurement of the oscillating circuit excited by the electromagnetic waves and containing a consumable electrode with an arc, according to which the inter-electrode gap is determined and according to the magnitude of which the melting process is controlled. Herewith the excitation of the electromagnetic waves is performed in the resonant circuit, that is an open resonator, in which the consumable electrode end made with a through hole, through which the electromagnetic waves are introduced, and the liquid metal bath in the mould are used as its reflectors.
EFFECT: improving the measurement accuracy of the electrode gap.
