FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Method includes metal 142 pouring in the crystalliser 145, metal cooling in the crystalliser, and cooling of the of solidificated ingot 151 leaving the crystalliser by the coolant 144 supply over the ingot perimeter. The coolant flow is regulated by removal from the ingot surface of the excessive coolant by means of the wiper 159. The wiper is installed below the fuse block 121 during start-up period, then is quickly moved to the position near the crystalliser during the transient stage of the ingot heating. During the second transient stage of the heating the wiper is moved from the crystalliser to position, where the ingot core is completely solidified.

EFFECT: removal of the residual stresses of the ingot due to keeping of the high temperature of core of the solidificating ingot.
