FIELD: casting equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining the presence or absence of water (21) in the cavity (20) of the seed block (15) having a non-horizontal surface (23) in equipment for casting with direct cooling. The method includes emitting a wave (25), in particular an electromagnetic radiation or an ultrasonic wave, along the path of a virtual beam, by means of a device (D). The device (D) contains a sensor (30). The wave (25) is directed towards the cavity (20) of the seed block (15) in such a way that if there is water (21) in the cavity (20), the wave (25) is reflected from the horizontal surface of the water (21), and if there is no water in the cavity (20) of the seed block (15), the wave (25) is reflected from the non-horizontal surface (23) of the cavity (20) of the seed block (15). Using a sensor (30) located in the path of the beam of the wave (25) reflected from the horizontal surface of the water (21), the reflected wave (25) is detected if water is present in the cavity (20), or the wave (25) is not detected with using the sensor (30) if there is no water (21) in the cavity (20). The water in the cavity (20) of the priming block (15) can be removed using the device (80) for removing water.

EFFECT: increasing the safety of work on casting equipment and in increasing the efficiency of casting equipment.
