SUBSTANCE: seed head (415) for a continuous casting mould comprises a round main part with a concave upper surface and two or more recesses (420) on the upper surface. First end of the recess is closer to the centre of the upper surface than the second end of the corresponding recess. Depth of the first end of the recess relative to the upper surface is less than the depth of the second end of the corresponding recess relative to the upper surface. Centre of the upper surface is located in the mould lower than the lower surface of each recess. On the profile of the second end of the recess there is a clamping point, which determines surface (423) of the recess clamping, which provides engagement of the recess with the hardened casting material.

EFFECT: reduction of stresses inside the produced casting, which leads to reduction of probability of formation of cracks in the casting.
