FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for aluminothermal production of titanium from a tetrachloride thereof. Reduction is carried out in counter-flowing turbulent streams with dispersed aluminium in an inert gas. The aluminium is dispersed and fed into the gas stream in a reactor at temperature of 750-1100 K with stoichiometric weight ratio thereof to the tetrachloride of 0.19. After achieving maximum steady pressure, after the reduction process and cooling the retort, the obtained titanium powder is removed from the reactor into a receiving device connected thereto. The apparatus is then washed with an inert gas to remove aluminium trichloride with condensation of the latter into a solid state at temperature of 178-180°C and the inert gas is fed into the system once more.
EFFECT: high efficiency of the process owing to high temperature and low costs on the process.
