FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of metal powders. Method of producing metal powders, for example titanium and silicon, is carried out by aluminothermic reduction from liquid tetrachlorides at low temperatures and pressure of 1.0–1.05 atm. At that, tetrachloride is supplied to aluminum block surface at the rate providing drip or jet-drop mode of efflux. To implement the method, I use a device which is a cylindrical reactor with a conical collector of products in the lower part. Compact unit of highly pure aluminum is installed in the reactor. Device is equipped with tetrachloride dosing unit, as well as temperature and pressure control and stabilization units.
EFFECT: method enables controlling the dosage of the supplied tetrachloride and thereby avoiding an increase in the rate of the process above the controlled level.
